A new feature is coming to Google Maps where users can add missing or new roads and make adjustments on incorrect roads. The feature will be rolled out in more than 80 countries in the coming months.
Google Maps is one of the most used map services in the world. The service, which is constantly developed to provide service with the most up-to-date information, comes with a new feature that aims to increase the rate of users’ contribution to improvements.
Especially with the feature developed to ensure that new roads are included in Google Maps faster and that incorrect information can be edited in a shorter time with the support of users, anyone who wishes will now be able to edit the roads on the desktop in Google Maps.
Information provided by users will be checked and published:
Thanks to the new feature added to Google Maps, users will be able to add a new road by drawing on the map, and users will be able to update a wrong or reverse direction or a road whose name has changed. At the same time, images will be transmitted to Google to verify this new information with photos. It is very practical to use the feature. Users who visit maps.google.com on the desktop will be able to add the map by drawing the paths from the ‘Missing Road’ menu by selecting the ‘Edit Map’ option from the side menu. It will also be possible to edit incorrect information from the same menu.
The road information added to Google Maps by users will be published if it is determined to be correct after checking by Google. With this new road modification tool, Google aims to provide the most up-to-date information in the fastest way possible thanks to the power of user participation. The feature will be available in more than 80 countries in the coming months, but there is no list of these countries yet.
