Social media giant Facebook will pay a total of $52 million in compensation to current and previous content moderators.
The psychology of the moderators is broken
Complaints were recently brought to court that moderators were forced to scan “disturbing” content intensely and therefore started to experience psychological problems.
Facebook is now going to settle in this case, paying about $1000 in mental health compensation to the moderator army of 11,250 people.
Moderators who have received reports that their mental health has been severely impaired, have been hospitalized or have started to receive treatment, will receive compensation at the level of $50,000.
The total amount of compensation will amount to $52 million. Facebook will also edit the control software used by moderators and prevent audio / video playback from starting automatically.
Facebook moderators are exposed to violent, violent images that are constantly uploaded in many parts of the world. Numerous videos, such as crushing puppies / dogs, cutting live heads of prisoners on the battlefield, killing jealous lovers or torturing their wives on the air, have been published uncontrollably on Facebook. Facebook started to employ a large number of moderators so that such images would not be published again.
