IBM responded to the US in facial recognition technology
IBM, one of the largest IT companies in the world, is making a radical decision in face recognition studies. For this, IBM plans to meet with the US administration.
IBM CEO, Arvind Krishna, who wanted to take stronger steps in this regard, sent a letter to the US Congress. In this letter, it was stated that IBM will no longer develop general use face recognition technology. The letter highlighted that it is critical to discuss with the US government whether it is necessary to use facial recognition technology by local law enforcement agencies.
The fact that companies are in a very difficult situation in terms of confidentiality and rights violations in facial recognition technologies has led IBM to make such a decision. IBM wants to undertake permissions-based work as a result of negotiations. We can say that it will not be a surprise for the US administration to accept IBM’s request to ensure security within the country.
