According to information from sources close to the company, MediaTek has set up a team to research 6G technology at its R&D center in Finland.
The fact that the companies mentioned in the smartphone market follow an aggressive expansion policy on 5G has caused companies that are planning to have a long-term role in action for 6G already. One of these companies, according to MediaTek and the new information, the Taiwanese company has already started 6G R&D studies.
According to the information reported by sources close to MediaTek, the Taiwanese company started its R&D studies for 5G about 6 years ago and the 5G supported Dimensity processors introduced at the end of last year enabled MediaTek to receive positive comments on 5G.
MediaTek has an R&D center in Finland as well as Taiwan, which is extremely important. Because Finland is the homeland of Nokia, and although Nokia is not one of the popular companies in the smartphone industry, it has an extremely high R&D power and technologies in mobile communication infrastructure.
According to information from Finland, MediaTek has already set up a 6G research team at its center. While Nokia’s R&D efforts focus on how 6G equipment and standards will be, MediaTek will work on the presentation of this technology to consumers. This means that the two companies will be able to continue their 6G efforts in cooperation without any competition.
6G is not expected to be commercially available before 2030. Therefore, MediaTek has a lot of time ahead to improve on 6G. However, let us remind you that Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, and other big brands of the smartphone industry are already working for 6G.
