China-based smartphone maker OPPO may release a TikTok-like video-sharing platform in the coming months. Speaking to the South China Morning Post, a company official said the new service could be available in the second half of this year.
TikTok, the video sharing platform under the Chinese ByteDance roof, is undoubtedly one of the most popular mobile applications of recent times. This plaftorm, which users take short videos of their daily lives and share them with their followers, has been on the agenda of the USA for a long time due to allegations of data breaches.
The application closely followed by the Trump administration is on the radar of many other countries. At this point, India had banned a total of 59 mobile applications of Chinese origin, including TikTok, across the country. TikTok’s constant exposure to bans creates new opportunities for competitors.
OPPO is preparing to introduce its TikTok-like video platform:
Instagram, one of the largest social media platforms of today, has published the Reels feature, whose basic logic is very similar to TikTok, in the past months. After Instagram, it was announced that China-based smartphone manufacturer OPPO will soon launch a TikTok-like video platform.
Speaking to the South China Morning Post, a company official said that the world’s fifth-largest smartphone maker could launch its video-sharing service later this year. Stating that the importance of internet services has increased with the development of 5G, OPPO Asia-Pacific President Jimmy Yi said, “We are about to launch our short video service in the second half of this year.”
It is currently unknown how OPPO’s video-sharing service will work or what the details will be, but if the Chinese company really starts such an initiative, it could be the first major smartphone maker to have a short video app built into its devices.
