Despite its short history, TikTok India, one of the largest social media platforms of today, will make a new decision regarding its operations. Intense pressure from India is forcing TikTok to make a new decision.
Decision stage for TikTok India operations
The tension between China and India made TikTok’s operations difficult. TikTok, which has a great user potential in India due to its population, cannot use this potential.
For this reason, TikTok may go for region-based operations sales. TikTok, one of 59 apps blocked in January in India, is about to decide to sell its operations. ByteDance, the roof company of TikTok, started negotiations with Japan-based SoftBank. If an economic agreement is reached, TikTok can completely transfer its operations in India to SoftBank. In this way, it can be operated in India through SoftBank.
However, this sale of TikTok may be stuck with some restrictions. China is following a policy of approval on technology exports. So even if ByteDance takes this sales decision, it can be blocked by China. In addition, TikTok plans to sell with some restrictions. For example, the discover and suggest engine, which has a unique structure, may not be included in the relevant sale.
