Edison Mail, a popular e-mail application that can be downloaded for free on the App Store, has caused a serious security issue. With the latest update to the app, some users were able to access the emails of people they never knew.
As we became more and more intertwined with our mobile devices day by day, we started to get help from various applications that helped organize our order. One of these applications was the Edison Mail application, which was released for iOS and received great reviews from many large organizations.
The application, which was downloaded from the App Store for free, allowed users to control all their email accounts from a single platform. In this way, users could do this via an application instead of visiting the e-mail addresses they want to check among their platforms one by one.
Other accounts could be viewed:
However, the popular e-mail application came up with a very important vulnerability today. This vulnerability caused even users to check and read e-mails to people they never knew except their own accounts. The error was also accepted by Edison Mail.
Users who encountered this error in the application could access the e-mail address of someone they never knew without entering any password. Fortunately, according to Edison Mail’s statement, this error was only seen by a small user base that received the new update to be implemented.
A user who saw this error on Twitter and reported it to Edison said the error occurred after updating the app and using the new sync feature. The official Edison account, which responded to the tweet, stated that they were working on the technical problem and started reaching the users affected by this error immediately.
Edison team, who reached The Verge, added that they immediately withdrew the update that was the source of the problem. As a result of this error in Edison Mail, it is not yet known how many people’s e-mail addresses were viewed by unknown people. Another question is how users might have been affected by Edison’s mistake.
